Understanding Bali’s New Tourist Fee
The Bali tourist levy has been introduced as a way to fund the local environment, business, and culture and to decrease the heavy tourism footprint on the local environment. The tax of IDR 150,000 (about $10 USD or €9) is mandatory for all foreign visitors, including minors and must be paid before arrival to the island.
Paying Bali tax is an entirely online process. Travellers will be asked to provide their names, passport number, date of arrival in Bali, and of course an email to receive the payment receipt. Once paid, traveller will receive a QR Code to be presented at the ports of entry as proof of paid tourist levy.
Exempt from the Bali tourist levy travellers, holders of official visas, ship crew members, and residents with KITAS or KITAP permits.

Bali Tourist Levy in Brief:
Everything You Need to Know About Bali’s Tourist Fee
1. What is Bali’s New Tourist Fee?
Bali’s tourist fee is a small contribution of 150,000 Indonesian Rupiah (around $10) that every international visitor must pay. This money helps preserve Bali’s unique culture, traditions, arts, and natural beauty. Whether you’re visiting ancient temples or relaxing on beautiful beaches, your payment helps keep Bali special for future travellers.
2. Who Needs to Pay This Fee?
All foreign travellers to Bali are subject to the tourist levy. This includes tourists, people visiting family or friends, people on short business trips, and even transit passengers. However, some people are exempt from paying the tax like all visa holders, flight, cruise, ship crews, or people with residential permits. If you are not a tourist and you are not sure if you have to pay the Bali tourist tax, check with the Indonesian consular office closest to you.
3. When to Pay the Bali Tourist Levy
We recommend paying your fee at least 72 hours before you arrive in Bali. Once paid, you’ll get a QR code by email that you must show to immigration officers upon arrival. You can also pay at the ports of entry, at designated kiosks. However, to avoid long lines just before your vacation, we highly recommend to use our online service. This way, with your QR Code in hand, or saved to your mobile device, you will be able to pass quickly through the immigration check-in.
How to Pay Your Entry Fee

Why Your Payment Matters

Better Services for Travelers
Your contribution helps improve travel services and cultural tourism management in Bali, making your visit safer and more enjoyable. The money also supports better infrastructure development for land, sea, and air travel, improving service quality, safety, and comfort for all tourists.
Protecting Bali’s Culture
The fees collected help preserve Bali’s environment and cultural heritage. This ensures that Bali’s rich traditions, customs, arts, and local wisdom are protected for future generations to enjoy.

Supporting Nature Conservation
Your payment helps enhance Bali’s natural and cultural beauty through conservation efforts. Bali continues to develop innovative programs to improve the quality of its natural environment and cultural heritage through preservation, conservation, and restoration projects.
Legal Background
Bali is famous worldwide as “The Paradise Island,” “The Island of Love,” “The Island of Gods,” and “The Island of a Thousand Temples.” To preserve this special place for future generations, the Bali Provincial Government created this tourist fee.
The program is managed by “Love Bali,” a government initiative that supports comprehensive development planning. The goal is to maintain the balance and authenticity of Bali’s landscapes, people, and cultural heritage.
This fee is officially regulated under Bali Provincial Regulation Number 6 of 2023, which focuses on tourist levies to protect culture and the environment. It’s also guided by Bali Governor Regulation Number 36 of 2023, which outlines the procedures for collecting these fees efficiently.
Important: This Fee is Different from Your Indonesian Visa
Your tourist tax payment receipt should not be confused with an Indonesian Visa on Arrival (VOA). If you’re not from an ASEAN country (Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam), you’ll need both a visa and the Bali tourist tax when visiting Indonesia.
The visa process depends on your nationality. You can apply for a visa in advance, get a visa on arrival (VOA), or obtain one from an embassy. If you’re eligible for a VOA, we recommend using the official online application at https://molina.imigrasi.go.id.
For business or work travel, you’ll usually need a business visa or work permit. Your sponsoring company in Indonesia typically helps with this process and may need to provide documents like invitation letters.
Entry requirements vary by nationality, so check Indonesia’s entry conditions well before your planned departure date.
